Our client is a Veteran Owned, SCDOT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise construction and professional land surveying firm based in North Charleston, SC. They’ve established themselves as an industry leader in delivering exceptional services. Their team of experts utilizes both conventional tools and advanced robotic technology to conduct surveys, perform certifications, and provide real-me GPS and mapping services. 

Our client is seeking a qualified and knowledgeable Construction Survey Party Chief to join their team. They’re looking for a candidate with a proven track record of excellence in highway and roadway construction surveying and a demonstrated ability to lead a team of surveyors in delivering accurate and precise survey data for construction projects. The ideal candidate must possess a strong understanding of surveying equipment, software, and field procedures, as well as exceptional communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

·        Lead a team of surveyors to complete As-built, Boundary, Title, and Topographic Surveys; as well as the completion of Wetland & OCRM Delineations.

·        Responsible for reduction of field data, land record research, preparation of boundary surveys, topographic maps, route surveys to state and federal standards, utility inventory surveys, and roadway right of way plans. Knowledge of reading highway plans, plats and deeds.

·        Set up and operate survey equipment including Total Stations and GPS units.

·        Ensure that survey equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.

·        Ensure all work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and survey standards.

·        Prepare and maintain project records, including field notes, sketches, and data files.

·        Conduct quality control checks on survey data to ensure accuracy.

·        Dependability, desire to learn, and critical thinking skills along with communicating with the office and clients is also integral to the position.

·        Adhere to safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for the survey crew.

Requirements:

·        Minimum of 5 years of experience as a crew chief.

·        High School diploma or GED.

·        Knowledge of survey equipment and software. 

·        Mathematical Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume including the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

·        Have ability to take clear and concise field notes and make sketches, as well as understand and interpret construction drawings.

·        Excellent communication and leadership skills.

·        Must be self-driven with little or no supervision.

·        Ability to travel within the state (overnight travel required.)

·        Must have current and valid driver’s license with MVR that meets Company requirements.

·        Be willing to work outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, heat, cold, and other adverse conditions - you will be in the field for extended periods of me.

·        Willingness to mentor more junior staff such as instrument men.

 

Working Conditions:

·        Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, ice and sometimes snow. 

·        Requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of me. 

·        Requires physical stamina and the ability to stand, walk, and traverse uneven terrain for extended periods. Lifting and carrying equipment will be necessary. May occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.
