Senior Accountant

 

Our client, a leading retail, wholesale, and commercial distributor of traditional heating fuels in the northeastern United States, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Accountant to join their finance team. POSITION OBJECTIVE:

 

The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of our main business. With a focus on traditional business lines such as heating oil, propane, and petroleum products, the incumbent will ensure adherence to established GAAP accounting practices. Reporting directly to the CFO, this position involves day-to-day accounting responsibilities for accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, and fixed assets, as well as overseeing special projects.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Lead day-to-day management of the accounting process, overseeing and involved in performing inventory management, general accounting, and financial reporting practices.

2. Collaborate with the CFO in preparing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

3. Develop and maintain controls related to revenues, expenses, cash flows, and capital expenditures.

4. Contribute to creating the annual operating budget process and drive its implementation across the organization.

5. Oversee physical inventories, ensuring accurate counting, recording procedures, costing, and reconciliation of material differences.

6. Ensure proper documentation of processes with a focus on process optimization and leveraging technology to streamline workflows.

7. Assist in external audits and respond to third-party information requests.

8. Direct the development, preparation, distribution, review, analysis, and consolidation of all operating budgets.

1. Expert working knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, forecasting, and asset management.

2. Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships with multiple departments, influencing decisions through compelling communication.

3. Sound and disciplined financial practices, coupled with the ability to influence senior-level leaders.

4. Strong analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, establishing credibility at all organizational levels.

6. Demonstrated success in an unstructured environment, showing initiative to address business needs.

7. Capacity to manage multiple high priorities and complete responsibilities within expected deadlines.

8. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline is required.

2. Master of Business Administration, Accounting, or Certified Public Accountant qualifications are preferred.

3. Demonstrated ability to manage large quantities of financial data.

4. Excellent computer skills, specifically MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (experience with Great Plains is highly preferred).

5. Strong written and oral presentation skills.
