Like many aspects of our rapidly evolving world, the recruiting industry has not been immune to the forces of change. During the last two decades, I’ve seen the face of recruitment evolve in remarkable ways. I have made some mistakes in that time and had some lucky breaks too. But most importantly, I’ve learned a ton. From a shift in how candidates communicate to the emergence of artificial intelligence, my insights into the industry are here to help you and your organization optimize your processes and achieve better results.
Here’s what I’ve learned (so far):

1. Building a Talent Pipeline

It sounds simple, but it still surprises me how many recruitment and HR professionals opt for the instant solution over the long term – not to say the least when it comes to sourcing candidates. The best way to find the perfect candidate is to build up a talent pipeline in your field and keep them on file, ready for when the next opportunity arises. Engage with and get to know candidates personally. Show them the value of your skills, and likewise make them feel valued, and attract them to your business. Get on the phone and get into your industry. This is an important piece of how you learn the ins and outs.

2. The Power of Passion

To successfully source the best candidates, you need to wear many hats. You must be adaptable, thick-skinned, empathetic, but, more than anything, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. In essence, you must sell the right position to the right candidate. The only way to do this is to show attention to detail and a true passion for the role and the company you are trying to position them for. Position your client company as an employer of choice by crafting the right content that reflects your enthusiasm. Tell their story!

3. Tools for Success

Technology is paramount in the recruitment industry today. Artificial intelligence streamlines how we work, while social media provides a platform to reach more candidates. Mobile technology is on the rise, so optimizing your website and job adverts can drastically improve the candidate experience. I advise trying new platforms that works for your industry and staying in the loop with the latest resources.

4. Expanding Horizons For All

Creating a diverse workplace often leads to big success. Yet, many businesses opt for the same types of people repeatedly. You need to look at how you source candidates and analyze how you deliver the role you are working on to the candidate. Remove bias from the process, and you might see a more diverse range of people who fit into open roles.

5. Perseverance Pays Off

Candidates and client companies will let you down, causing complications and a few grey hairs. The key is to dust yourself off, breathe, and get back out there. Find inspiration and surround yourself with positive people who will guide you through the testing times. Stay motivated!

6. The Power of Adaptability:

The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the past almost 20 years is to be adaptable. All these points I’ve included above require that trait. A closed mind will impact your achievements and let other businesses or professionals leave you in the dust. Stay switched on, and don’t be afraid to try something new.
